Amithlon was an attempt (and a successful one) to get AmigaOS 3.9 running on cheap and modern x86 hardware. The goal was to make it feel as much like a real Amiga as possible. A linux kernel was modified to boot the x86 hardware and launch the Amithlon emulator, which has an advanced JIT 68k emulation at its core. Amiga-side drivers are capable of accessing the x86 hardware directly, or, using a abstraction layer that supports many underlying cards. It is also possible to compile x86 native code and run it within AmigaOS 3.9. The Amiga’s AGA chipset was not directly supported, however hardware-hitting games could still be run through UAE inside the Amithlon emulation.
The original authors (Mr. Bernie Meyer and Mr. Harald Frank), and the distributor (Haage & Partner) have abandoned the product. However, over the years there have been several updates to the Amithlon kernel from third-party developers. They are listed below.
Milan’s Kernel 4 Updated Amithlon Kernel and Drivers
Release Date: June 17, 2010
In 2010 an enterprising developer named Milan produced an updated Amithlon Kernel to support newer hardware. You can download the kernel below and read up on what hardware it supports. It includes all hardware updates previously added by Gary Colville for the 3.10 Kernel.
Alternate Download: SourceForge.
Supported graphic cards, hardware accelerated:
Nvidia FX series such as the FX5200, 5600, 5700, etc…
Nvidia TNT2, GeForce 256, GeForce 2/2 MX, 3/3 Ti and 4 MX, 4 Ti.
Matrox Millennium G100, G200, G400, G450, G550.
ATI Radeon 9200, 9600, 9800 PCI.
PCI-Express variants of those cards will run in VESA mode with no hardware acceleration.
Intel ICH7, 8, 9, 10

Gary Colville’s 2.04 Amithlon Kernel 2.04 Standard
Release date : 3rd April 2004
For all systems NOT using the NForce 2 chipset. The experimental Radeon driver is present, but the memory limit code isn’t as it still is not working correctly.
Other features of this kernel:
Hardware-accelerated GeForce 4 Ti driver with full resolution and refresh-rate control.
Non-accelerated GeForce 4 MX driver with full resolution and refresh-rate support.
IDE DMA/UDMA now functions on these chipsets: VIA KT333, KT400, KT400A, KT600 and nVidia nForce 2 (with nForce kernel only).
Gary Colville’s 2.04 Amithlon Kernel 2.04 NForce2
Release date : 3rd April 2004
For NForce2-based systems only. Features are the same as standard kernel, but this one also has NForce2 chipset support including on-board sound, IDE DMA, and Networking.
Older Kernels by Gary
Release date: unknown
Drivers 0.86 download
Release date : 7th Feb 2004 – I believe these work with the 2.04 or 2.03 kernels.
Optional Linux-side drivers for use with the kernels. These replace the drivers found in the Contrib3b pack and add support for, among others things:
A wide range of AC-97 codecs including the ALC650, AD1890 and VIA VT1616.
Audio support functions in the Intel ICH4, VIA 8235/8237 and nVidia MCP south bridge chips.
Broadcom 44xx 100MBit LAN chips.
nVidia nForce2 integrated LAN.
PCIlist – lists PCI devices
Release date : 11th November 2003
